Marty Noble never lets us down. The faces on her angels are beautiful, as is the entire illustration. Graceful, elegant. These pictures have alot of rich detail, in beautiful settings, with beautiful borders. This would make a nice gift. Also great for crafters, as these pictures could be used for more than simply coloring. I Would not recommend this book for children, or kids. 30 very detailed illustrations,on both sides.( I only wish Dover was still using the paper of the older coloring books). A book such as this deserves to be on quality art paper. Which is a good reason for scanning and reprinting onto paper of your choice.

This is one of the most beautiful Dover books I have ever seen. The angels have such beautiful faces and the scenes they are in are just perfect. I am really enjoying this book. I am using colored pencils for this book as I want to be able to blend shades of skin and show shadows and depth.

If you love Dover books and angels this is a must buy. You will not be disappointed.

I am a big fan of Dover coloring books. This Angel coloring book has lovely and peaceful pictures of angels. There are lots of details. Unlike many Dover coloring books, this one has no captions- just pictures.

My 9 year old daughter has enjoyed The Kicks book series more than any other book we have thrown at her. As parents, we have struggled to motivate our daughter to read (our daughter hates reading). We have tried various books that we thought she would find interesting and also had her choose her own books, but she never wanted to read them. :(

We recently came across The Kicks book series and decided to give them a shot because my daughter plays soccer (she isn’t one of those aggressive and passionate soccer kids, but she’s decent). Also my wife has been around soccer her whole life. Anyway, my daughter has enough interest in these books that she doesn’t pitch fits when we ask her to read. She, with a little help from us, has read through 2 of these books and was excited (at least the most excited I’ve seen her about a book) to see that we bought this one. For my daughter to have a little interest in reading is something we’ve struggled with, so this book series deserves some credit.

Thank you Alex Morgan, for giving us a set of stories which can help us provoke good discussions with our kids about what it means to make difficult moral decisions while working hard to achieve our goals! My 8 year daughter who loves soccer was not only thrilled by the stories, but was inspired by the experiences of your characters. There were more than a few times that she said, "I bet Devin is really Alex, and these are the lessons she learned while growing up!" Thank you from a parent who is always looking for great, inspiring books for young girls!

This is more for 3rd to 5th grade then middle school.

Prayer

Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God Audible – Unabridged ridged
Author: Timothy Keller ID: B00OSJC8SG

New York Times best-selling author and renowned pastor Timothy Keller explores the power of prayer. Christians are taught in their churches and schools that prayer is the most powerful way to experience God. But aside from learning prayers by rote, few receive instruction or guidance in how to make the most of this essential Christian act – how to make prayer genuinely meaningful. In Prayer, renowned pastor Timothy Keller delves into the many facets of this everyday act. With his trademark insights and energy, Keller offers brilliant and inspirational biblical guidance, as well as specific prayers for certain situations, such as dealing with grief, loss, love, and forgiveness. He discusses ways to make prayers more personal and powerful, and how to establish a practice of prayer that works for each listener. Dr. Keller’s previous books have sold more than one million copies. His Redeemer Presbyterian Church is not only a major presence in his home base of New York, it has also helped to launch more than 250 other churches in 48 cities around the world. His teachings have already helped millions, the majority of whom pray regularly. And with Prayer, he’ll show them how to find a deeper connection with God.

There are two topics I try to read books on regularly: the gospel and prayer. I read on the gospel because I need it to grow me, to humble me, to sanctify me, and to help me remember what God has done in Christ to save me. I read on prayer because my prayer life needs encouragement and guidance to strengthen my desire and skills at communicating with God.

Naturally, when I heard one of my favorite authors, Timothy Keller, was coming out with a book on prayer, I was eager to get my hands on a copy and dig in.

Prayer: Experiencing Prayer and Intimacy with God is a book that was birthed out of Keller’s realization of his own shortcomings in prayer. Both he and his wife were diagnosed with diseases during a certain season of their lives (his was thyroid cancer and hers was Crohn’s disease). This coupled with pastoring in Manhattan around the time of the September 11th terrorist attacks forced Keller to his knees and really begin to practice and wrestle with the concept of prayer.

Readers will sense within the first five pages just how well-read and well-thought-out Keller is in dealing with prayer. Keller sought to write on the essentials of prayer from a "theological, experiential, and methodological" perspective, and thus do something most books on prayer seldom do (1).

A Brief Summary

This book is divided into five parts, each comprising from two to five chapters. Part one is called "Desiring Prayer," which answers the "why?" question about prayer and digs into its necessity, mapping out the terrain for the rest of the book.
"Writing a book in your 50s will go twice as fast and be twice as good as if you try the same book in your 30s. It’s just good stewardship to wait."

That was Tim Keller’s advice to pastors who desire to write. And he would know, since by my count, Keller has written nine books in the last two and half years. Talk about prolific writing!

Keller’s latest work is simply entitled "Prayer." As he explains in the introduction, his aim is to combine the theological, experiential, and methodological in one book (1). He wants to drive home that prayer "is both conversation and encounter with God" (5).

We must know the awe of praising his glory, the intimacy of finding his grace, and the struggle of asking his help, all of which can lead us to know the spiritual reality of his presence. Prayer, then, is both awe and intimacy, struggle and reality. These will not happen every time we pray, but each should be a major component of our prayer over the course of our lives. (5)

Keller begins by acknowledging that he "discovered" prayer in the second half of his life with a series of moments: his teaching through the Psalms, the events of 9/11 (his wife implored him to pray together every night), and after his treatment for thyroid cancer (9ff.). This book, then, is the fruit of what he learned and what over the years, in both reading and in practice, he has discovered. Rather than giving a thorough review of this work, I will simply offer a couple of points that landed powerfully on me.
Like other reviewers I was looking forward to this latest work from Tim Keller. I even pre-ordered it. Being a book on Prayer with a subtitle of "Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God," I was expecting the author to share his personal experiences with prayer and how it enabled him to be ushered into the presence of God where he could be transparent with his Father in heaven, at least to one degree or another. But that’s not what this book provides. It is a somewhat tedious and often out of place mixture of evangelism, apologetics, theology, and history, with a few practical approaches to prayer at the end.

It’s main emphasis is on what Luther, Calvin, John Owen, Jonathan Edwards, J.I. Packer, Edmund Clowney, C.S. Lewis, and others, predominantly in the reformed tradition, have written about prayer with a few contributions from Augustine. In that regard the book is a helpful, although frantic, compendium of quotations and insights from these Godly men — it made me want to read more of John Owen’s work. A few quotes from other writers is fine when an author is making a point, but most chapters are entirely a summary of what others have written. The experiences and insights of the author are noticeably missing until a few of the last thirty pages.

Also difficult to find are the subtitled awe and intimacy. When the author’s own words are included he is far more likely to speak of prayer "as a duty and a discipline," that "is often draining, even an agony," "a struggle," something that requires "right performance.

Having just completed a seminary course on the life and writings of Henri Nouwen, I’ve come to the conclusion that I really admire and appreciate Henri Nouwen, the man, and really don’t like Henri Nouwen, the author. I’ve read several of his books that simply didn’t connect with me at all, though I know that they are hugely popular and helpful to scores of other people.

There is no question that among Henri Nouwen’s books that I have read, "In the Name of Jesus" was definitely the most meaningful and helpful to me. I suspect that my resonance with this book is connected to his starting assumptions. Rather than struggles like fear and loneliness which are largely unknown to me and which were so central to several of his other books, I definitely identify with the temptations, described in "In the Name of Jesus," to be relevant, spectacular, and powerful. Each of these three is very attractive to me, so the book seemed to be speaking directly to me in ways that the other books simply did not.

The first issue that Nouwen addressed is relevance. Nouwen offers a helpful corrective to our frequent obsession with relevance, suggesting that we need to make sure that our pursuit of relevance is subservient to our pursuit of God. On page 24, he says, "The question is not: How many people take you seriously? How much are you going to accomplish? Can you show some results? But: Are you in love with Jesus?…Do you know the incarnate God?" That is a message that we continually need to hear, so that we keep focused on the most important thing of knowing God while continuing to give appropriate attention to the less important things like relevance.

The second temptation, to be spectacular, is a big one for me.

I am a practicing, church going rosary saying, Roman Catholic and this dare works regardless of the religion of the producers of the dare or the religious beliefs of those that do the dare.

These are short, easy-to-read daily devotional thoughts for couples — Here’s how to grow together spiritually as a couple, by spending a few minutes each day thinking about the same topic.

This is a great follow-up for the "FireProof" movie! If you’ve seen the movie in a theatre or on DVD (the DVD is right here on ) you already know about the "Love Dare" idea. Now, that same 40-day idea is spread throughout all 365 days of the year.

Nice layout, very readable, this works well for couples who want to grow together spiritually.

If you’re seeking to have notes of a theologian’s systematic, theological perspective on any given passage, consider purchIDg the John MacArthur ESV Study Bible–it contains notes of his specific opinion of any given passage and a very, very brief look at said passage’s context.

If you’re seeking to acquire an objective, contextual gaze into any given passage, rather than a theologian’s personal opinion, consider purchIDg this Bible.

Here’s a "proverbial Bible passage note" as an example of what I’m talking about when referencing the notes used in this specific Bible vs. the notes used in the John MacArthur ESV Study Bible:

(i.e. [This Bible]: "Grind stones were tools used for cooking, primarily from 89BC to 134AD in southern Greco-Roman communities. Grind stones were cooking tools used to grind grains of wheat into flower. They were primarily used in small, rural communities that existed approximately 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem at the time of Christ…"

VS.

[John MacArthur ESV Study Bible]: "Grind stones were tools used for cooking in rural communities outside of Jerusalem. The grind stone referenced in this passage could ultimately be a metaphoric portrayal of God’s divine election amidst the propitiation of the cross."

I personally enjoy objective, historical notes over a theologian’s opinion, but that’s just me. To each his own!

Yes, the print is small, but unless your vision is terrible, then you’ll be just fine. Even then, eye wear or contacts could be (and, arguably, should be) considered as a viable aid to your vision handicap.

Cover is quite enjoyable. A very soft imitation leather. Allows a solid grip with great flexibility and comfort.
